Royal Family LIVE: Prince Charles plots huge title snub – axe to fall on frontline royal | Royal | News

Prince Charles has ‘grand plans’ for monarchy says host

The PR campaign which aimed to emphasize the closeness of the Wessexes to the Queen, as well as make them look like a safe pair of hands, has irritated several people at Clarence House, according to an expert. According to royal expert Richard Kay, a figure close to the Duchess of Cornwall said: “It has been noted that they [the Wessexes] are often described as ‘indispensable’. It feels strategic.”

Another source who is a part of Charles’ circle said: “’Charles is making it clear that his brother may have jumped the gun [over the title of Duke of Edinburgh].

“It is not a done deal.”

The news comes after reports have indicated that Prince Charles does not want Prince Edward to inherit Prince Philip’s Duke of Edinburgh title.

For years, the Earl of Wessex has been expecting to inherit his father’s title – but the Prince of Wales is said to be against the idea. Royal expert Richard Kay said the move was due to Charles’s wish to cut down the size of the monarchy when he is King.

Writing in the Daily Mail, Mr Kay said: “So it is against a background of a slimmed-down monarchy that the Prince has been developing ideas about working royals, their titles and how they fit in with his vision of a modern Britain.

“Someone close to Charles told me that rather than more royal titles, the Prince prefers fewer.”

Mr Kay also said there was an element of “sibling rivalry” behind the reported move.

He said: “After two high-profile interviews in which Edward talked about the challenge of inheriting his father’s dukedom, it does seem as if there is a bit of ‘Wessex fatigue’ among some members of ‘the Firm’ and Charles has fired a warning shot.”

The royal expert added it “doesn’t help” that Charles and Camilla are “not very close” to Edward and his wife Sophie.

Mr Kay’s comments come after reports Charles does not his younger brother to become the Duke of Edinburgh.

A source told the Sunday Times: “The Prince is the Duke of Edinburgh as it stands, and it is up to him what happens to the title. It will not go to Edward.”

Another insider added: “Edinburgh won’t go to them [the Wessexes] as far as the prince is concerned.”

A Clarence House spokesperson said: “All stories of this nature are speculation and no final decisions have been taken.”

Carla Bignasca told the Today show: “I’m just confused what category it’s in, I think is it the best drama category?

“Because I think it would probably win, not to be confused with The Crown or other fictitious royal documentaries or whatever else material that’s been out there.

“It’s up against the Britney Spears documentary which has had a huge impact on her legal case, so I can only imagine that Britney Spears might win in this case, over Meghan and Harry.

“After hugging his dad to share the moment of intense celebration, George sets about producing his own personal ritual of joy and the way he throws both arms up and out shows who he has learnt them from.

“He even rubs his nose in a trait that we often see in William and both father and son pull at their trouser belts in matching body language routines.”
